Today is a good new, bad news day.
For the bad, our shipment of Monster Manual alt covers from Southern Hobby is delayed. Our rep has a bad case of shingles and their warehouse didn't get the books out in time. The good is that the books are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday and that everyone who special ordered an alt cover book will still get one. In addition, we received a very small number of alt covers from Alliance. So for anyone who preordered and must have their alt cover Monster Manual book today, we have got you covered. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

A new entry in the ?Wingspan? line of games from Stonemaier, ?Finspan? adds new depth to the engine building mechanics established in the other games. Instead of habitats, fish are placed into ocean zones (Sunlight, Twilight, & Midnight). Fish are limited by zone (horizontal) and dive sites (vertical) and might include When Played, When Activated, or Game End powers.

The resource gathering portion of the game is reduced to eggs, hatchlings, and cards. Predator fish must eat a smaller fish than themselves to be played. Some effects allow all fish of a certain size to gain benefits. After the first game, more complex scoring rules come into play? including additional points for fish in your ocean who are venomous, electric, or utilize camouflage. Scoring for a group of four ended within 20 points of one another, so pretty balanced if you ask us!

Our only complaint is the fish facts don?t include their geographical region like the ?Wingspan? bird cards do. There are also no bonus cards to add hidden scoring in ?Finspan.?

Our new, custom dice tower from Gatekeeper Games arrived earlier this month but I forgot to post the pictures once we filled it with the dice restock. We LOVE our new dice tower! It is so pretty! We need to add lights and maybe some labels, but the tower allows us to display so many more sets of dice than we could before. Because it spins, it is also easier for customers to shop.

Side roads haven't been plowed and the amount of water on the main roads makes us hesitant to encourage staff to drive in as the temperatures drop tonight. Therefore, we are calling a snow day on Friday, January 10 and will reopen on Saturday.

Today, we received a copy of the Yellow Pages. I haven't seen one of these in a long time. In a world where most don't have a landline and you can look up telephone numbers online, there really isn't much need for this book. We were amused to see that 25 years later Valhalla's Gate was still listed under Games and Game Supplies with the same phone number we started with in 2000.
